Strengthening Community Accountability: PDM Training Held in Kigumba, Maddu
In a continued effort to enhance service delivery and community empowerment under the Parish Development Model (PDM), a focused training session was conducted today at Kigumba, Maddu PDM SACCO. The training brought together key stakeholders including the Parish Development Model Focal Person (PDM F/P) and the District Commercial Officer (DCO), with a particular focus on grievance management.
The session aimed at building the capacity of SACCO leaders and community representatives to effectively identify, handle, and resolve grievances that may arise during the implementation of PDM activities. Grievance management is a critical component in ensuring transparency, trust, and accountability in the utilization of PDM funds and services.
Participants were taken through practical frameworks for addressing community complaints, documenting disputes, and applying conflict resolution techniques within the SACCO and broader community settings. The facilitators emphasized the importance of timely feedback mechanisms, inclusive communication, and strong documentation practices.
The PDM Focal Person noted that effective grievance management helps build confidence in the PDM structures and ensures that all voices—especially those of marginalized or vulnerable groups—are heard and addressed fairly. Meanwhile, the DCO stressed that institutionalizing a grievance redress mechanism within SACCO operations is vital for ensuring integrity and sustainability of the Parish Development Model.
This training marks a significant step toward strengthening the governance structures of PDM SACCOs in Gomba District. The participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity and committed to implementing the skills gained to serve their communities better.
As PDM activities continue to scale across the district, such capacity-building engagements will remain central in ensuring that the program delivers meaningful and inclusive development at the parish level.
